The Zoom H4 Handy has a true automatic gain control. Other recorders may use a compressor circuit instead. This very feature prevents clipping at high volumes.

The two external mics at the top are protected by a foam shield and a simple structure made of a sturdy wire to protect them from a possible physical damage.

Zoom H4 Recorder

The Zoom H4 recorder offers you plenty of cool features to record high quality audio. Use it as a full function stereo recorder capable of a wide range of recording rates: from low grade MP3 to 24bit-96K wav files.

Use the Zoom H4 Recorder as a portable 4 track recorder. For a fast file transfer, there's a USB interface.

The built-in microphones and two combo jacks connect your favorite microphones or instruments. And that includes condensers with 24. With a 2GB SD memory card, the Zoom H4 provides up to 380 minutes of recording in 16-bit mode (CD Quality), and 34 hours in MP3 stereo mode.

And to move your recordings to a PC or Mac, the H4 includes a USB mass-storage interface. Records 24-bit-96KHz digital audio as well as .mp3 with bitrates up to 320 Kbps.

There are 4 buttons on the left side of the Zoom H4 recorder. By using them, you can easily and quickly switch between .mp3, 16-bit/44.1kHz, 16-bit/48kHz and 24-bit/96kHz PCM file formats before you start recording.

You can control the H4's MP3 settings from 48 to 320 bits. You also have the choice of variable bit rate. The device defaults to the last recording rate used.

The same4 'magic' buttons play a role when using the Zoom H4in a multitracking mode. Imagine having a 4-track recorder small enough to fit in your pocket yet powerful enough to perform such a task flawlessly.

And then, there are the 'effects' capabilities covering a large range of presets. Adjust and control them from mic and amp simulators, through the usual modulation, reverb and delay effects, to compression and limiting.
